Are You Piercing Jesus or

Healed by His Wounds?

Nab B.

(updated Sep 17, 2025)

“Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.”  (Rev 1:7)

More and more Christians are convinced that this "coming with the clouds" and "every eye will see him, even those who pierced him" will take place when Christ comes "visibly" in the "flesh" to this earth. But I have news for you: This is not what Jesus meant! The "piercing" and the "healing" in Revelation 1:7 are highly symbolic phrases with profound spiritual meaning for all of us. (Compare Rev 1:1-3).

First, the "coming with the cloud" is a symbol of glory and power. "Clouds" were always associated with "God's glory" (see 2 Chron 5:14, Eze 10:4, Ex 40:35, 1 Thess 4:17, Mk 14:62, etc). There is a need for believers to use their mental faculties to discern between literal and symbolic passages, so as not to be deceived by irrational interpretations!

How could Christ say "many pierced him" (literally: piercing or pierce; indicative active tense), when we know that only one Roman soldier pierced Him (John 19:34)? If so, who are the "ones" (plural) still piercing or stabbing Jesus? Is it you? Is it me? Why do I have to care? I think we should care! There is a cosmic decision that will be made involving our very life, whether we accept it or not, aware of it or not, care for it or not. It has been already happening!

On the day of Jesus' crucifixion, a Roman soldier pierced his side. “Water and blood” immediately came out and poured on the ground.

“But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.” And again, another Scripture says, “They (plural: the people, not a soldier) shall look on Him whom they pierced.” (John 19:33-37) ESV

The Piercing is Spiritual

Jesus was pointing to a spiritual kind of piercing. Keep in mind that when he was pierced, water and blood poured out on the ground, indicating actual death. But even this incident (the piercing, water, and blood) has a profound meaning for the people of the earth, as I will explain later.

“Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.”  (Rev 1:7)

Here’s the same verse in the Concordant Literal Translation (note the Greek tenses [in red] rendered correctly):

“Lo! He is coming with clouds, and every eye shall be seeing Him – those, also, who stab Him – and all the tribes of the land shall be grieving over Him. Yea! Amen!”

The verb used for "pierce," "piercing," or "stab" is in the Aorist indicative active tense, denoting a past action that continues into the future.

Although it was only one lone Roman soldier who pierced or stabbed Jesus some 2,000 years ago, the piercing or stabbing of Jesus Christ seems to continue, indicating that this is an ongoing spiritual piercing!

Aren't these Christians aware that Jesus had already "come" in power and glory? Have they not checked the scriptures? You see, this is what happens when one becomes a passive hearer, letting some church teacher (himself controlled) dictate what to believe without him or her examining and "judging all things". (See 1 Cor 2:15)

Here's scriptural proof that Jesus had already "come in power and glory":

"God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name." (Phil 2:8-9)

"[God] raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand...far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come." (Eph 1:20-21) ESV

"Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him." (1 Pet 3:22)

I'm confident you can find similar passages, showing Jesus Christ has already "COME" in power and glory and is very active among the churches.

(one clarification: Jesus will have a final coming to resurrect the dead, to commence God's judgment Day, and usher in the new creation. He won't come in the flesh for Christ is a "life-giving Spirit" (1 Cor 15:45), besides, "though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more." (2 Cor 5:16)

Note what has been taking place from the time He received power and glory:

How Does One Pierce Christ Spiritually?

ALL sinful humans already pierced him. But others continue to pierce the Son of God!

We all pierced him when our sinful nature was put upon him at the cross, causing him to be killed sacrificially (according to God's will) as a "sin offering" for us, but not for Him! For those who believe in this salvation work, their sin nature was put to death through His death. And what is left now is for Him to heal us.

"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed." (1 Pet 2:24) ESV

“Everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:40)

“For the death, he died he died to sin, once for all.” (Rom 6:10)

God’s plan of salvation was completed through Christ’s death, but billions aren't responding to its powerful, eternal healing. Many "people of the earth" have been literally wasting such glorious salvation for a measly 80 or 90 years here on earth! They continue to be slaves to sin and death, causing Christ further spiritual piercing.

Others who were "once enlightened" by the gospel, fell away from the faith, are also piercing the Son of God over and over again. Speaking of such ones, this has been said:

“If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.”  (Hebrews 6:6)

“How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?” (Hebrews 10:29)

“For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.”  (2 Peter 2:20) ESV

What Hinders Some!

Some who are aware of God’s Salvation choose to do little or nothing in terms of giving themselves over to Him to gain "aionian life" or "the eternal life of God" now. For many, God’s salvation does not impress them or convict them enough. Still others allow the Word of Christ to be choked in them for different reasons, be it deception, trials, persecution, the cares of life, wealth, etc. (See Mark 4:13-20)

I am aware that many of our excuses and reasonings often stem from our ailing hearts (inner mind and motives), which cannot be trusted, especially when we ignore what God has done! God's advice: don't listen to the deceitful heart!

“The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

Stop Piercing, Get Healed!

Through God's grace and patience, we still have time to repent and come to the Lord of life to be healed. It was not for nothing that Christ said,

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt 11:28 ESV)

“Everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. Whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me.” (John 6:40, 57 ESV)

While humanity has been spiritually asleep in the dark night, Christ's day has been coming forth "in the Spirit" as a "thief," testing and judging His people. He has been gathering those who choose to be "healed". He has been removing the "disobedient". He does so by searching hearts and minds and the very depths of men's souls, for there is nothing hidden from Him! (Compare Heb 4:12-13)

The End of this age shall not come

until God's chosen, for the new creation, have been gathered and sealed

according to God’s determination!

When Christ was pierced, “Water and Blood” poured on the ground. As His water and blood touched the ground (from which man was taken), it symbolized the removal of our sin nature and its sting, death! Sin and death lost their power on the cross by the life of Christ poured out for you and me. If you desire to be a new creature, you need to do it "now," through “the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,”

“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of Regeneration [paliggenesia: a birth again] and renewal [anakainosis: something new and superior] of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.” (Titus 34-6)

If you are "doubting," "lingering," "slowing down," "losing the love you had for Christ at first," or even "losing your faith," there is no better time than NOW (today) to come back in "true repentance," "a change of mind and heat" to claim God’s true gift of an unimaginable new life through Jesus Christ.

"Behold, now is the favourable time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Cor 6:2)

Do it while you have a breath. There are no second chances after death. Let Christ remove the old, sinful nature through the washing and regenerative power of His Spirit, and you will be forever healed!
