Who are the Four Living Creatures?

Many confusing and man-made interpretations were given on the 4 living creatures.

Let scripture explain scripture to know the meaning!

A Study Based on Revelation 5:6-10

Let me say this at the outset: The "Four Living Creatures" has nothing to do with literal creatures around God’s throne. The meaning is strictly SYMBOLIC, as you shall see by the end of my short paper.

If Revelation draws its motifs and shadows from the Old Testament, it makes sense, then, to go back to where these creatures first appeared to understand the intended meaning.

These 4 living creatures were first spoken of when God made a covenant with Noah and all humans.

Here is what God told Noah as soon as Noah came out of the ark:

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, ‘Behold, I establish my covenant with: (1) You and your offspring after you, and with every living creature that is with you,

(2) The birds, (3) The livestock, (4) Every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth.”

( Gen 9:8-10 )

From this passage, you can see that all creatures in the Ark were divided into these 4 groups:

Humans

Birds

Livestock

Wild beasts

Only these 4 groups were taken into the ark, and later “came out of the ark” (Gen 9:10). For obvious reasons, "Sea Creatures" were excluded from the covenant since they were able to survive the floodwaters.

Now, Revelation 4:6-7 draws on Genesis 9:8-10, showing the same 4 groups, but now listed according to their group representatives or heads

The head of all humans is Man.

The head of all birds is the Eagle.

The head of all livestock is the Ox.

The head of all wild beasts is the Lion.
